Gold standard: Warrendale celebrates World Steak Challenge success
Warrendale Wagyu is celebrating an outstanding result at the 2026 World Steak Challenge, with Gold medals awarded to its British Wagyu fillet, ribeye and sirloin steaks.
The results are a fantastic endorsement of the quality and consistency being delivered across the Warrendale supply chain – and, most importantly, of the hard work and attention to detail of the farmers producing the cattle behind the steaks.
The World Steak Challenge brings together beef from across the globe, making the awards an important independent benchmark of eating quality. Warrendale’s British, grass-fed entries secured Gold medals for all three cuts entered: fillet, ribeye and sirloin.
For Warrendale farmers, these awards are about much more than medals. They provide independent recognition that British Wagyu can compete with some of the best beef being produced anywhere in the world.
A result built on farm
Producing consistently high-quality Wagyu beef starts long before a steak reaches the judging table.
It comes from the decisions made every day on farm – from genetics and calf management through to nutrition, health, welfare and finishing. Warrendale farmers invest significant time, care and expertise in their cattle, often rearing them for longer than conventional beef animals in order to achieve the characteristics and eating quality expected from Wagyu.
These Gold medals are therefore a shared achievement across the Warrendale farming community.
They also reinforce why consistency remains so important. As Warrendale continues to grow and more consumers discover British Wagyu, maintaining high standards across the supply chain is essential to protecting the reputation and value of the product.
The awards demonstrate that this collective effort is delivering.
Irish Wagyu partnership strikes Gold
Warrendale’s growing international partnerships were also recognised, with the Kepak x Warrendale Wagyu Ireland x Musgrave entry winning Gold for its Irish grass-fed ribeye and Bronze for its grass-fed sirloin.
The result represents another important milestone for the Irish Wagyu programme.
Warrendale has worked with Kepak to bring its experience in Wagyu genetics and integrated production into Ireland, supporting the development of a dedicated Irish Wagyu supply chain. The programme combines Warrendale’s Wagyu expertise with Kepak’s processing capabilities and Ireland’s established beef farming sector.
The Gold medal provides early independent recognition of the eating quality being achieved through that partnership and, importantly, of the work being undertaken by the Irish farmers producing cattle for the programme.
What does this mean for Warrendale farmers?
Awards don’t change the realities of producing cattle on farm, but independent recognition at this level is important.
Every Gold medal helps strengthen the reputation of British Wagyu with retailers, customers and consumers. Building that reputation supports demand, which in turn helps create a stronger and more secure long-term market for the cattle being produced by Warrendale farmers.
It also reinforces something we regularly discuss through our farmer meetings, planning and performance work: quality and consistency matter.
There is no single action responsible for producing an award-winning steak. It is the cumulative result of genetics, health, nutrition, growth, welfare, handling and good stockmanship throughout an animal’s lifetime.
As the Warrendale supply chain grows, understanding the factors that drive both animal performance and eating quality will become increasingly important. Our work around performance data, R&D and cost of production is designed to help us understand those relationships and share practical findings across the farmer network.
Ultimately, producing exceptional beef also needs to be commercially sustainable for the farms producing it.
Thank you to our farmers
While the medals carry Warrendale’s name, the achievement belongs to everyone involved in producing the beef.
We would particularly like to thank our farmer partners across the country.
The standards achieved at the World Steak Challenge begin with the care, commitment and husbandry taking place on your farms every day. Maintaining those standards while managing the everyday challenges of running a farming business requires considerable dedication.
Three Gold medals for Warrendale’s British Wagyu, alongside Gold recognition for the Wagyu programme developed with Kepak and Musgrave in Ireland, are something the whole supply chain can be proud of.
They provide further evidence that Wagyu produced within British and Irish farming systems can stand alongside outstanding beef from anywhere in the world.
Most importantly, they recognise what can be achieved when farmers, processors, retailers and the wider supply chain work together with a common focus on quality.
Congratulations – and thank you – to everyone who has played a part.
