Shropshire Wagyu Grower Open Day
On the 16th November 2023, Warrendale Wagyu held their first Wagyu Grower Open Day in Shropshire which was kindly hosted by Faye Dickson and family on their farm near Baschurch, Shrewsbury. It was an opportunity for new and prospective farmer partners to see how the Warrendale Wagyu Beef Scheme has worked well for Faye, having diversified from a suckler-beef Limousin herd eighteen months ago.

The Broadlands is a mixture of arable and grassland, and currently run a herd of over 200 Wagyu. They typically purchase Wagyu at around 150kg at approximately 5 months of age, taking them through to either strong stores or finish. The change of farming practices away from commercial beef was due to the breed temperament and ease of handling of the Wagyu. The simplicity and flexibility of the supply chain, buy-back commitment, and the stability of the Warrendale pricing matrix, has allowed Faye to forecast their cash flow and has given the business the confidence to increase the number of Wagyu on farm. After a Wagyu farm tour, a presentation of the Warrendale supply chain was given, with attendees enjoying a Wagyu burger, sausages, and steak samples at a local pub.
