Lancashire Producer Open Day
Warrendale Wagyu's third Producer Open Day took place on Thursday 24th November, kindly hosted by Andrew and Ann Butler of Lower Barker Farm, Preston. Andrew and Ann are 3rd generation Dairy Farmers at Lower Barker Farm and currently farm 650 acres of permanent grassland. The dairy herd consists of 570 Holstein Friesians plus followers, and as the farm requires 150 replacements annually, they now serve 70% of the herd to Wagyu. This system works well for the business as the calves leave the farm at 16-18 days of age, which keeps the rearing system flowing and also creates a good return for the family business.

Here at Warrendale, we are finding these Wagyu producer events a great way of showcasing the possibilities and benefits of our supply chain. They are a great opportunity for potential new farmer partners to see first-hand how the scheme works and how it fits into a farming system. Talks were given by our Production Director, Jamie Brownrigg and Production Manager for the Lancashire region, Tony Rigby, which enabled attendees a chance to ask questions, as well as gaining a greater understanding of the scheme. Lower Barker Farm is also home to Wild Fox Distillery, which was a fantastic setting for the presentations, followed by a tipple or two!
