Finnish Farmers Visit Warrendale Wagyu for a Taste of British Excellence
On Wednesday, 29th October 2025, Warrendale Wagyu had the pleasure of hosting 40 beef specialists from Finland, ranging from seasoned experts to those just beginning their journey with Wagyu. The visit was part of a four-day UK tour organised by Johanna Vesa of Farmimatkat, which roughly translates as ‘farm trips’.
During the visit, we learned that around 80% of beef production in Finland comes from the dairy herd, with the remaining 20% from suckler beef. While Wagyu farming is still relatively new in Finland, starting only around five years ago, there was some discussion about future crossing programmes with Holstein, Ayrshire, or Nordic Red dairy cows.
The day began at Pocklington School with presentations from Tom Richardson, Warrendale MD, and Richard Saunders, Secretary of the British Wagyu Association. They provided an introduction to British Wagyu and an overview of our supply chain, giving the Finnish visitors a broad understanding of how high-quality British Wagyu is produced, from genetics through to finishing.
Next, the group visited Scurf Dyke Farm in Hutton Cranswick, home to one of Warrendale’s partner farmers’ growing and fattening units. The farm currently houses 1,500 Wagyu crossbred cattle, many of which are destined for Freedown Hills and their olive-fed programme. Animals are typically finished at 26 months, achieving a deadweight of 390kg, with the latest batch of 60 cattle reaching an impressive average Marble Score of MS7.
The day concluded with a Wagyu lunch prepared by Warrendale. It was a fantastic day of learning, sharing, and celebrating what makes British Wagyu world-class, and we were thrilled to showcase our supply chain to such an engaged group of international farmers.
