About the event

In collaboration with Dovecote, we are hosting live-to-dead training events at Skellingthorpe and Pontefract. The event gives Warrendale farmers the opportunity to learn or refresh their selecting skills on finished Wagyu cattle.

The event starts at 8am. To start with, there are with presentations and discussions on finished animals. Delegates have a practical session in the lairage, looking at the cattle and having a go at grading, looking and assessing the classification, fat cover and dead weight.

After changing into PPE, attendees then walk a short distance to the processing room to view the carcasses. Here you obtain the grade from the official MLC grader, to compare the “live to dead” grading.

Thereafter, you will get a demonstration of what the grader is looking at and how to spot specific points on the carcass. Then there is an opportunity to watch the process as the cattle work their way through the processing room. (The latter part is optional).

Back in the meeting room, there will be a further presentation on cattle nutrition and how to obtain the optimal Wagyu carcass, along with lunch.
