gen Grower

Calves are moved onto the growing farm – or kept on their rearing farms if farmers are able to do so – where they spend a summer on grass. This is the longest stage of the production supply chain and where the marbling starts. Correct feeding in the latter part of the growing period is crucial, we strongly recommend forage analysis so that feeding can be supplemented to ensure growth and a strong healthy bone structure.

Communication between farmers during transfer of farms is vital to reduce stress and allow for easier transactions. At the end of this process, our finishers will receive an animal able to forego a check for six weeks.

Frequently asked questions

No - each farm can participate in whichever aspect of the supply chain suits their farming system, whether that just be calf rearing or taking them on at the growing stage through to finishing. If you are able to take the animals right through the chain, then that is great!

No - there is no correlation between back fat and marble. Backfat is controlled by protein levels and marble controlled by starch.

The Wagyu cattle, up until late store, are fed the same as any other commercial animal. It is only in the latter store stage and finishing period that the diet is specific.

The marble is graded using the Australian system, graded from 0 (no marble present) to 10 (highly marbled).
